Business Studies & Ease of Doing Business

A great learning exercise and immersion study area for MBA students

Technological education is required to prepare the students for both design and implementation of products. Tech education in India is said to be theoretical in that a graduate from a technological university may not be able to use his skills to develop a new product.
Many experiments of collaboration with industries and businesses in India are being made for the purpose with the hope that a better quality of education can be offered to the young.

For example in Business Studies, at GTU, immersion studies was included in every subject in 2014 and the students were required to bring their work, at the end of every semester, for an intensive scrutiny. In 2014, at least two MBA Colleges, affiliated with GTU,  were asked to study each of the topics for ranking on Ease of Doing Business by World Bank and by WEF. Some of the papers by the Professors from these Colleges were presented at the Conference on Ease of Doing Business, organized by GTU in 2015. (Due to a blind review system, the papers, from all these Colleges, could not find a place in the conference.)
At the conference, at an evening session, it was decided by some of these Professors that they would work with new businesses in their neighbourhood to learn more about the issues involved. After an internal review, another conference could have been organized.

Meanwhile due to sustained efforts for three years by Government of India, the WB EODB index has improved from 142 in 2014 to 100 in 2017.

“Business in India still remains curiously divorced from what businesses actually need. Often, it becomes about bureaucrats trying to come up with their own fantasy reforms.”-Aurodeep, Economic Times, 31st Oct 2017

While Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, GOI,  works with the State Governments, Electricity Boards and Banks, we at the Colleges of Business Studies, which are spread out all over all over the country, can study the issues with new businesses in their neighbourhoods as a part of their curriculum-exercises.

If every MBA students, in a group, is asked to work with new businesses, in the neighbourhood of their College, to see how EODB is working in her district, it can be a great learning exercise.
