UNDER-EMPLOYMENT and
UNEMPLOYMENT
of graduates from
Technological Colleges
If
our graduates are under-employed or unemployed, there can be only two reasons:
(i)
Our Technological Colleges and universities are turning out in-adequately
trained graduates: If our students and
professors decide to work hard to see that every one of the graduates is
well-equipped with knowledge and skills, this problem can start getting solved
within two years.
(ii)
There are some fields in which our enterprises are able to meet the needs of
our nation completely and the enterprises do not need any expansion: This is unlikely to be true since if we want
to offer a good quality of life to our citizens, the needs should be so large
in every field that the nation may have to work hard for a few decades before we reach a
stage of saturation.
India’s share in the markets
of the world is of the order of 2%. The markets of the world are dominated by
China even for products, which require conventional technologies to
manufacture. An Indian’s per capita income is of the order of 20% of that of a
Chinese.
Hence if only we are able to
manage our enterprises, our marketing efforts and our infra-structural systems
better, we should be able to steeply increase the value of our goods, which we
produce and market to the whole of the world.
While
some of the effort for reaching the markets of the world is to be made by the
governments, most of the work is required to be done in our enterprises.

if our enterprises decide to manage themselves better and become competitive
in the markets of India and of the world,
every one of the graduates from our technological
Colleges should be able to obtain good employment opportunities.
2. The government institutions working in
export promotion and industrial extension should look at the ways of reducing
the cost of production and marketing in the world’s market, so that enterprises
can use our demographic dividend and our much lower per capita income in India as
compared with that of China to increase our share of the world’s market.
Let
India Inc, at the government institutions, at the academic institutions and at
enterprises, decide to start solving the problem during Vikrami Samvat 2074.
